National Assembly of Gambia

Billy G. Tunkara, Majority Leader of the National Assembly and representative for Kantora, has called for an independent inquiry into the controversial sale of assets seized from former President Yahya Jammeh.

In a letter to the Clerk of the National Assembly, Tunkara requested the formation of a Special Select Committee to investigate the asset sales, following The Republic‘s recent exposé alleging corruption and irregularities in the process.

“I have submitted a formal notice of intention to table a motion for an inquiry,” Tunkara said in a statement. “The Clerk’s Office has been instructed to assist in drafting the motion for the June session of the National Assembly.”

He added that his office, along with supporting members, is committed to seeing the inquiry through in the interest of transparency and accountability.
