Gambian voters have been encouraged to turn up in their numbers on Saturday to elect their lawmakers.

The call was made today by the  Independent Electoral Commission spokesman, adding “everything is rightly ready to conduct the election.”

Gambians will head back to the polls on 9 April to elect new parliamentarians who will steer their affairs for the next five years

IEC spokesman Pa Mahan Khan told reporters: “On Saturday we encourage the electorates to come out in their numbers to elect their candidates.”

According to him, the campaign has been peacefully conducted

Meanwhile, he added: “I can assure you that everything is in place to conduct the election. The materials are in place and staff are trained to conduct the election.”

More than one hundred candidates among them 19 women are contesting in April National Assembly elections.
