A talented Gambian women league player, Binta Jallow, has died in a capsized boat bound for Europe.

She was among more than 40 Gambian migrants mainly from Kombo Jambur and its surrounding communities, whose boat capsized around Mauritania as they head to Europe.

Lamin Kaba Bajo, president of Gambia Football Federation, described the late Ms Jallow’s death “devastating” and “tragic”.

He expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased on behalf of the football community.

The latest boat tragedy followed October’s tragic sea accident that claimed lives of more 20 Gambian migrants who died of acute hunger.

The Gambia has been rocked with massive migration of youths amid high cost of living and rise in unemployment.
