Eligible Gambian women have been strongly urged to run for parliamentary seats in their constituencies in the upcoming elections due in April 2022.

Women make up more than half The Gambia’s population and yet have only five representatives in the National Assembly.

Speaking to Gambiana, Fatoumatta Jammeh-Jeng who announced her intention to run for the upcoming parliamentary election, has called on her fellow women to join the race to the National Assembly in order to participate in the country’s decision-making process.

“I am encouraging everyone and every other woman out there that has the interest to come forward and be part of this race or has an interest in any governing opposition let them come out and I am hundred percent sure that she will have support because this is what we need,” she said.
