Police commissioner Gorgi Mboob has been reinstated as the commander of the police Anti-Crime unit.

He replaces Superintendent Momodou Sowe.

This is commander Mboob second stint as head of the Anti-Crime unit. His zero tolerance approach to crime drew praises from some quarters of the population.

Mboob fell from grace last year following torture allegations after he was accused of hitting a suspect with a hoe on his private parts.

An investigation by the police and human rights organisations found that he had acted inappropriately in the treatment of detainees.

He was relieved of his duty and redeployed to Farafenni as police commissioner.

However the crime rate went up in the Greater Banjul Area following his departure as head of Anti-Crime unit.

He is now being recalled to head the unit once again and maintained law and order.
