Neneh Cheyasine Kebe, Vice President of the PPP Golden Era Party Alliance, has alleged that the government has mismanaged over $1 billion in public funds, calling for urgent accountability and transparency in the handling of state resources.

She made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Gambiana at her residence in Bijilo, where she strongly criticised what she described as a lack of explanation from the authorities regarding the use of national funds.

“The government had mismanaged over a billion dollars of our money and has no explanation of what happened to those funds,” she said.

Kebe further argued that instead of addressing public concerns, the administration has shifted focus through changes in key government positions, particularly within the justice sector.

“Instead of coming to Gambians to give us an explanation that makes sense, what did they do? They fired the Attorney General and hired somebody else,” she added.

She maintained that such actions reflect, in her view, weak accountability mechanisms and poor governance practices, insisting that citizens deserve clear answers on how public funds are managed.

Her comments add to ongoing political debate in The Gambia over transparency, public financial management, and institutional accountability.

The government has consistently denied similar allegations in the past, stating that all public expenditure is subject to audit processes and parliamentary scrutiny, and that reforms continue to strengthen governance systems.

Kebe, however, insists that more openness is needed to restore public trust and ensure that national resources are properly accounted for in the interest of citizens
