A government coroner has concluded that General Bora Colley, who died in custody in March, passed away from natural causes related to chronic medical conditions.

The findings, submitted on 5 May by Judicial Secretary Abdou Conteh, stem from a report by His Worship Dawda Phathy and have been reviewed and validated by Chief Justice Hassan B. Jallow under Section 10(1) of the Coroner’s Act.

The report found no evidence of foul play, mistreatment, or suspicious circumstances surrounding Colley’s death. The Chief Justice has directed that the findings be shared with the Ministry of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, and Colley’s family.

The ruling officially ends speculation surrounding the death of the former senior security official under ex-President Yahya Jammeh.

General Colley, who fled the country with Jammeh in 2017 following his ouster by ECOWAS forces, returned from exile and was detained at Yundum Barracks. He had been implicated by the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) in human rights abuses, including torture and murder.
