A civil society group in The Gambia is planning a nationwide march to demand transparency over the sale of assets linked to former President Yahya Jammeh.
The group, known as Coalition to Action, says it is calling for the publication of a full list of buyers who acquired the assets following Jammeh’s departure into exile in 2017.

The move comes in response to an investigative report by The Republic, which alleges that the Gambian government recovered only $23 million of an estimated $362 million allegedly misappropriated by the former president.
“Fellow Gambians, this call is made in our best interest as a people. As a nation striving to prosper and ensure that everyone, regardless of political affiliation, region, religion, gender, or social class, has equal opportunities to succeed and access state resources, we must rise in opposition to anything that threatens our collective aspiration for a better country.

“The Republic’s investigative report on the rampant corruption that plagued the Janneh Commission has left many in a state of shock and sadness, with some questioning whether a just society is possible if the syndicate remains unexposed.”
“At a moment like this, we must march. We must march to demand the full list of buyers of the former president’s assets, as these assets belong to the Gambian people. They have every right to know how their national resources were used, spent, or otherwise disposed of,” the group said.
