A high court judge in Banjul has ordered the Inspector General of Police to compensate Alagie Bora Sisawo a sum of 500,000 dalasis for violating his fundamental human rights during his detention.

Alagie Bora sued the Inspector General of Police and Attorney General for 7 million dalasis over violation of his fundamental human rights after he was detained beyond 72 hours with no charges.

He was arrested for criticising the Gambia government during a live programme on online media platform Kerr Fatou.

Justice Ebrima Jaiteh declared that Alagie Bora Sisawo’s detention was “unconstitutional”, adding that his fundamental right to liberty was “violated”and that he “underwent inhumane treatment in the hands of the police”.
