The High in Banjul today ruled in favour of Citizens’ Alliance against the Independent Electoral Commission and ordered the commission to pay D200,000 to Dr Ismaila Ceesay.

The court ruled the nation’s electoral body violated the Election Act and ordered the commission to collect additional signatures for the party.

Earlier this month, Citizens’ Alliance presidential candidate Dr Ismaila Ceesay’s nomination was rejected by the commission for failing to present 250 voters in Banjul.

But CA dismissed the commission’s claim and said the commission claimed to the party that they committed double signatories.

Speaking to reporters after the court ruling in Banjul, Dr Ismaila Ceesay described the ruling as landmark saying “we know we are right that’s why we didn’t lose hope.”

He described the country’s judiciary as independent. Today is a landmark ruling, this has shown the courts are independent.”
