The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) chairman Alieu Momar Njai has upheld the rejection of United Democratic Party’s Momodou Sabally to contest April National Assembly elections for Busumbala Constitutency.

Mr Njai’s decision comes a day after Sabally applied to the electoral body to challenge his rejection by a returning officer.

“The Commission writes to acknowledge receit of your letter of 11th March 2022 on the above subject matter, and to convey its decision partaining to the rejection of your candidature by returning officer of the Brikama Administrative Area.

“As its session held on 12th March, the Commission upheld the decision of the returning officer that your nomination has not complied with law as per the application of section 90 (1) (e) of the 1997 Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia,” Alieu Momar Njai said in a letter to Momodou Sabally.
