Journalist-turned-politician Ousman A Marong has blasted former lawmakers of Lower Niumi district for not doing much in improving the welfare of their people.

Mr Marong, who intends to run for the upcoming National Assembly elections in Lower Niumi District, told Gambiana exclusively that he will work towards easing the plights of the people of Niumi particularly travellers between Banjul and Barra.

“If I am elected into parliament, I will end the nightmare of the people of North Bank Region particularly the travellers using the Barra-Banjul ferry crossing points. I’ll also  make sure the water shortage within the Barra, Essau and Sami comes to an end,” he said.

“My region is good at choosing the worst MPs since the First Republic,” he said, adding “people living in these localities always find it difficult during the raining season.”

The manager of Niumi radio added: “I’ll create an avenue that will serve as a source of income for the boat boys (the “Banyaka Toi’s/Baranyine’s”). I’ll make sure the Barra crossing point is extended and if there is no space to do so it is relocated either to Essau or Mayanba.”

“I’ll work hand in glove with the Essau Sports Development Committee in creating a non-stop league competition that will help curb migration.

“Last but not least I’ll help the women gardeners. I’ll make sure there is a food storage built for them where they will keep their crops and produces.”
