Thousands of jubilant fans have taken to the streets to celebrate The Gambia’s historic Africa Cup of Nations qualification 

The Gambia has qualified for the first time in the Africa Cup of Nations after several failed attempts. 

The Scorpions today defeated Angola by a goal to nil at the Independence Stadium in Banjul.

Skipper Assan Ceesay put the Scorpions ahead in the second half of playing and securing the historic victory for The Gambia. 

The Scorpions will face Gabon in the final match which will see both teams qualifying for the continental cup.

The Gambia would now participate in the elite African football tournament that will take place in Cameroon next year 

Jubilant fans have taken to the streets to celebrate with dozens of cars blaring horns.

“I am extremely happy today like never before seeing our boys qualify for the AFCON,” a jubilant fan told Gambiana.

“We thanked the boys and the coach and all Gambians because we love our country.”

Another said: “Who can stop us? We have been patiently waiting for the day and today is the real day.”
