Mama Kandeh has called on the National Assembly to investigate the deaths of 66 children linked to contaminated cough syrups imported from India. 

Kandeh, the leader of Gambia Democratic Congress, also called on the National Human Rights Commission to investigate the incident. 

The tragic deaths of 66 have sparked outrage among Gambians both at home and abroad who are demanding for the health minister Dr Amadou Lamin Samateh to resign and all those responsible be prosecuted.

Kandeh said the investigation should find out how this tragedy happened and “those involved must face the full force of the law as the only justice to the victim families’ and the setting of a good precedence to avoid future reoccurrence of it.”

Meanwhile, he offered “sincere and deepest condolences on behalf of the Gambia Democratic Congress Central Executive to the decease families over the loss of our children, which the nation is mourning with bleeding hearts.

“I know no one can interpret the devastating moments you are going through but I would like to assure you of our sincere prayers at this difficult times.”

Meanwhile, the death toll has risen to 69 according to latest reports.
