Kanifing General Hospital has achieved a significant milestone in healthcare innovation with the introduction of its first-ever surgical smart pod, marking a transformative step for medical services in The Gambia.
This landmark development was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Baylor College of Medicine in Texas, Horizon Trust Gambia Ltd, and various other partners.
During the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Amadou Samateh, the minister of health, emphasised the initiative’s potential to revolutionise surgical care in the country.
“This innovative project aims to integrate cutting-edge technology with quality healthcare services,” he said.
Dr. Samateh highlighted the primary objective of the smart pod to reduce maternal and child morbidity and mortality while enhancing access to critical life-saving procedures during childbirth.
He expressed gratitude to all partners and stakeholders involved, noting, “Together with our dedicated healthcare providers, we are setting a new standard for surgical excellence and paving the way for a healthier future.”
