Kanifing Municipal Council has called on floods victims within the municipality to reach out to their local ward officers for support.

The council’s call comes after houses were destroyed by flash flood following heavy downpour over the weekend.

KMC mayor Ahmed Talib Bensouda told reporters during a tour of the affected communities that victims of the flood would be supported with relief packages.

Bensouda called on KM residents to adhere to safety guidelines namely “to wear protective clothing and seek indoor shelter if possible. Stay away from windows and doors during heavy rain and strong winds.

“Avoid roadway underpasses, drainage ditches, low lying areas and areas where water collects – they can unexpectedly flood or overflow.”

He also called on drivers to “avoid driving in heavy rain due to poor visibility. If possible, park and wait until the rain has slowed or stopped to continue your journey.”
