Electricity has been restored in Kubuneh after a faulty NAWEC transformer left the community without power for almost a week, affecting water supply, the local clinic and school activities.

The Kubuneh Village Development Committee (VDC) confirmed that the faulty transformer was replaced earlier today, restoring a proper flow of electricity to the community.

The development comes days after Gambiana reported on residents’ concerns over the prolonged outage and their appeal to the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) for urgent intervention.

In its earlier report, Gambiana highlighted the impact of the outage on the community clinic, which serves residents from several surrounding communities, as well as summer classes and access to water from the community borehole.

Following the restoration, the VDC expressed appreciation to Gambiana for amplifying the community’s concerns and helping bring the matter to the attention of the relevant authorities and the wider public.

“On behalf of the community, we say a big thank you for standing with us and using your platform to advocate for a solution,” the VDC said.

The committee added that the support helped keep the issue in the spotlight and thanked Gambiana for “being a voice for the community.”

The restoration of electricity is expected to ease the difficulties faced by residents during the week-long outage, particularly those relying on electricity for water and essential community services.
