A boxing match designed for laughs lived up to its billing at Pencha Mi Hall, as Kujali triumphed over Yorro in a hilariously unconventional bout that left the audience in stitches.
Referee Kitabu blew the whistle to signal the start, and Kujali began with a spirited display of double jabs.
But the comedy quickly unfolded when Yorro’s overzealous punch caused chaos in the ring. Abandoning all boxing protocol, Kujali resorted to wrestling, forcing an amused but bemused Kitabu to intervene.
“Hold his hand before he hits me!” Kujali humorously begged the referee, to which Yorro protested, “why are you holding my hand?”
The second round brought even more theatrics. Kujali accused Yorro of attempting to “end his life” with his long punches, prompting Yorro’s trainer, Assan, to call for a time-out as the exhausted fighter gasped for air.
Seizing the opportunity, Kujali’s trainer, Bangali, suggested an outlandish strategy, the use of a toy gun. With encouragement from assistant trainer Bobbling, Kujali returned to the ring armed with the playful prop, sending Yorro and his trainer fleeing in exaggerated panic.
The crowd erupted in laughter as the referee declared Kujali the winner.
The antics continued after the match, with Yorro and his trainer returning to protest the result. In true comedic fashion, they tackled referee Kitabu, adding another layer of hilarity to the evening.
The event, headlined by Gambian comedy troupe Bright Stars and featuring Senegalese guest comedian Yorro, drew a lively crowd eager for entertainment.
The blend of humour and physical comedy ensured the match was a knockout success if not for the boxing, then certainly for Gambian comedy.
