Kuntaur Area Council has declared the position of its chairman vacant amid absconding accusations since his travel to the United States.

Saihou Jawara who travelled to the United States in September 2023 to attend world mayors’ conference has since not returned to the country.

In a statement the council said the chairman Saihou Jawara’s position is now “vacant after he failed to honour the  council’s 24-hour ultimatum to resume work.”

“Chairman Jawara is believed to have absconded while on an official mission in the United States in September 2023. His prolonged stay raises concerns about his willingness to return to the country to continue his duties as elected chairperson of the Kuntaur Area Council,” the statement added.
