Yaya Sanyang, National Assembly member for Latrikunda Sabiji, has described Seedy SK Njie, the deputy speaker of parliament, as a “security threat”.

The lawmaker is opposed to Mr Njie’s nomination to lead the house select committee on defence and security.

“Seedy Njie is a security threat to this country,” Mr Sanyang told the house today (25 April).

Honourable Njie’s nomination has sparked controversy among lawmakers as opposition MPs moved to reject his nomination.

The opposition MPs many of whom are from the United Democratic Party preferred Honourable Muhammed Kanteh, member for Busumbala to head the committee.

They say Kanteh has a security background.

But MPs for the ruling NPP party and some of the National Reconciliation Party defend the nomination of deputy speaker Seedy Njie.

The National Assembly sixth legislative session commenced today and sitting continues.
