National Assembly

The National Assembly members have given themselves each a whopping D100,000 clothing allowance despite the economic hardships face by large sections of the population.

The clothes allowance is D1,666 per month per MP totalling D100,000 per MP for five years.

In addition all the MPs will receive an official car with the National Assembly paying 50% of the purchasing price and the MPs paying the other 50%.

The details were leaked online in a WhatsApp post that have gone viral.

It included details about MPs salaries, sitting allowances, car and clothing allowances. It’s the clothing allowance that has raised eyebrows with many condemning it.

According to the viral post, MPs basic salary is D54,000 per month and they receive additional payments for attending parliamentary sessions and committee meetings.

The salary for speaker and deputy speaker was pegged at D78,000 and D65,000 respectively.

The MPs also received a monthly tour allowance of D2,500 for outreach functions as well as a Constituency Development Fund of D300,000 per year.
