A leaked government memo regarding President Adama Barrow’s mother’s overseas medical trip has sparked controversy among Gambians.

The leaked memo from the Ministry of Finance requests an allocation of D3,625,957.80, which it stated would be used to pay for the per diems of the security officers, Secretary General, and other officers traveling with the president’s mother for her medical check-up.

The memo, signed by Omar S.M. Gibba, dated April 4, 2025, stated: “I have been directed to write and request a cash allocation of D 3,625,957.80. This will enable the office to pay for the per diems of the security officers who accompanied HE’s mother for her medical check-up, as well as the Secretary General and other officers traveling from this office.”

The presidency has not commented on the leaked memo.
