Mama Kandeh, leader of Gambia Democratic Congress, today filed his nomination papers to the Independent Electoral Commission days after signing a coalition deal with the pro-Jammeh APRC faction.
Kandeh told reporters that he will end corruption in the country if he wins the presidential election in December.
“We are going to fight corruption to the letter. There are many ways to fight corruption.
“Since this current administration came into power, we have not heard of anybody being fired or dismissed from his or her position because of corruption. And we know that corruption is rampant in this country.”
Despite the coalition deal, Kandeh said he will be contesting under the GDC banner.
“I am nominated under the ticket of the GDC [and] I think that’s clear,” he said.
He called on Gambians and his fellow politicians to “zealously safeguard the peace and stability of the country”.
