Mansakonko Area Council has confirmed it received three tractors from the Janneh Commission in 2019, clarifying their origin and current use amid growing public interest in assets recovered from the former regime.
In a statement shared with the media, the Council said the equipment was officially allocated by the Commission of Inquiry into the financial activities of ex-President Yahya Jammeh, his family, and close associates.
The Commission, widely referred to as the Janneh Commission, was established in 2017 by President Adama Barrow to investigate and recover public assets misappropriated during Jammeh’s 22-year rule.
The Council said the tractors were meant to boost its service delivery, particularly in community waste collection.
“Out of the three tractors, only two were in good working condition,” the statement read. “The third was received in an unusable state and remains as scrap at the Council office.”
One of the working tractors was deployed to the Bureng Lumo in Jarra East District, while the other remained stationed at the Council’s headquarters for routine operations.
“These two functioning tractors are still in use and have immensely contributed to our waste collection efforts,” the Council added.
Officials emphasized that the Council did not purchase the tractors but received them as part of the Janneh Commission’s redistribution of recovered assets.
The Janneh Commission identified hundreds of millions of dalasis in misappropriated public funds during its investigations, leading to the seizure of numerous properties and vehicles.
Several of those assets have since been repurposed by state institutions to aid development and improve governance.
