Marie Sock, former presidential aspirant Marie Sock has warned that Gambian President Adama Barrow could face exile by his successor if he fails to change his leadership style.
Speaking at a news conference, Ms Sock expressed concern over the economic hardship affecting Gambians, which she said is pushing thousands of young people to embark on perilous journeys to Europe in search of better opportunities.
She called on Gambians to take control of their future by voting for competent leadership in the upcoming 2026 presidential election.
Ms Sock also criticised the growing number of Gambians scrambling for work permits to Spain.
“It’s time for Gambians to wake up and take their future into their own hands by electing the person they believe is fit to lead them,” she said.
“Go and see our fellow Gambians struggling to get Spanish work permits. Over a thousand young men want to go to Europe to pick oranges. It’s heart breaking. They are desperate because they have lost trust in their future and want to escape hardship.”
She added: “Mr President, you have a family. No matter how long you stay in power, there will come a day when you leave office. When that time comes, your successor may exile you.”
She also urged President Barrow to be mindful of those surrounding him and the advice he is receiving, stressing the importance of always prioritising the well-being of Gambians and the country above all else.
