Mayor Ahmed Talib Bensouda of Kanifing Municipal Council has described President Adama Barrow as a “threat” to peace and security of the country after his verbal attack against the leader of United Democratic Party, Lawyer Ousianou Darboe in Brikama.
President Barrow once again stirred uproar after he vowed to rule the country until the death of his arch political rival lawyer Ousainou Darboe. His words have been widely condemned.
In response to the president’s political jibe, the KMC leader told reporters at a news conference that president Barrow has “destroyed” the core fabric of unity among Gambians.
“I would like to say the biggest threat to national security is the president himself, Mr Adama Barrow. This is not the first, not the second and not the third and I am sure this is not the last time he will make such comments that will make disharmony, disunity between [sic] our very own people,” he said
“When the national dialogue was formed I advised the party not to attend and I myself had not partaken in any of the exercises. And the reason being, is because I have come to know the person of Adama Barrow. He is a leader who swore to protect Gambians, to unite Gambians and preserve peace and stability. But since he became president, we have seen him do the opposite over and over again.
“During the 2021 presidential election, he used tribal politics to divide our people. Not thinking for once when those people go back to their neighbourhoods. Our country is a mixed country,” he added.
