Rohey Malick Lowe, the mayor of Banjul, has denounced President Barrow over his “scathing” remarks made against opposition leader Lawyer Ousainou Darboe. 

Ms Lowe asked the president to publicly apologise to Mr Darboe for his remarks and to stop making “divisive” comments that will further polarise the country.

“I want to tell you that you are the president of all Gambians. But I want to also tell you that Gambians don’t deserve such remarks you made against Alhagie Ousainou Darboe

“It is so shameful for me to even listen to this rhetoric. Therefore, as mayor of Banjul, I urge you to apologise to Gambians and Alhagie Ousainou Darboe publicly. 

“God forbids, if Alhagie Ousainou Darboe dies today, I wonder how you will feel to attend his funeral after making such disparaging remarks against him. And Gambians will never forget your scathing remarks,” she said.

Last night, President Barrow told NPP supporters that he would remain in power until the death of Ousainou Darboe, a onetime ally turned bitter foe. 

“I swear today that I will be president until Ousainou Darboe dies. That’s the only time I will leave power. But so long he is not dead, I will be president. I will leave only when he dies and we bury him that I will quit as president,” said Barrow.
