The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) has ordered the immediate closure of Daara Madina Suwaneh, a Quranic school near Brufut Heights, following a scabies outbreak affecting dozens of students.
In a statement issued Saturday (31 May), the ministry said medical examinations conducted on 101 children confirmed 57 cases of scabies.
“In light of this serious public health issue, MoBSE has taken immediate action to close the daara and relocate the students,” the statement said.
Affected students have been referred for urgent treatment, while those uninfected have been safely transferred to another Quranic school.
MoBSE said it will launch a joint investigation with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to examine the cause of the outbreak and assess the overall health and learning conditions in similar institutions nationwide.
The ministry also pledged to work with Madrasa and Majalis education bodies to establish and enforce minimum standards aimed at protecting students’ health and well-being.
