Gambian business tycoon Modou Turo Darboe has rubbished an audio clip circulating online that accuses him of saying Talib Bensouda is bankrolled by Lebanese businessmen.

Mr Darboe blasted the recording as “untrue and misleading” and urged the public to ignore what he called a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation.

“This audio is completely untrue and misleading. I support all political parties in our country, as I am not a bona fide member of any political party. My focus is contributing my quota to national development,” he said in a rebuttal statement.

Turo described Talib as “family” and said his only goal is to promote unity across the country.

“My effort is to unify the nation under the umbrella of One Gambia, One People, One Nation, irrespective of tribe or religion,” he added.

The controversial audio emerged just days after Bensouda launched his new political movement, which he plans to transform into a party ahead of his bid to unseat President Adama Barrow in the 2026 election.
