The National People’s Party has issued a statement clarifying reports surrounding an incident at the Sandu Kuraw meeting ground during President Adama Barrow’s ongoing Meet the People Tour.
According to the party, members of the Gambia Hunters Association, led by Modou Bintou Dibba of Baddibu Salikenne, arrived at the venue intending to present a crocodile to the President.
The gesture is described as a traditional act of honour in some rural communities.
However, because the President had not yet arrived, and in line with security and protocol procedures, the hunters were asked to leave the area to maintain order and ensure safety.
The NPP said President Barrow remains committed to animal welfare and upholding The Gambia’s Wildlife and Protection Laws.
The party noted that while cultural traditions are valued, they must comply with national legal standards on wildlife protection.
The public has been urged to ignore “misleading” social media posts and to verify information before sharing.
