Omar Touray of the National People’s Party has won the Kaiaf Ward by-election, defeating Sulayman Sanneh of the United Democratic Party, the Independent Electoral Commission has confirmed.

The closely watched vote in Kiang Kaiaf was widely seen as a key test of political strength ahead of the 2026 presidential election.

Earlier in the day, both parties had expressed confidence, with the NPP citing recent government development projects in the area and the UDP predicting a strong opposition showing.

Official results released by the electoral commission confirmed Touray’s victory, giving the ruling party the Kaiaf Ward seat.
