Police have detained 14 people in connection with missing millions at the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC).
Police launch an investigation after oneline newspaper, Trumpet, published an expose alleging that at least D15 million went missing from NAWEC’S AGIB account.
Superintendent Lamin Njie, Police spokesman, confirmed that police had so far recovered D1, 772, 600 after more than a dozen people were arrested.
“The Police investigation into the AGIB-NAWEC case is currently ongoing. So far 14 people have been arrested and are helping with investigations, among them are Gambians and non-Gambians,” he said.
Superintendent Njie said the police have seized a Mercedes Benz and a Toyota Camry as part of the investigations.
