The decomposed body of an unidentified man found in Nyambai Forest has been buried without any postmortem to determine the cause of death. 

A team of officers from the Gambia police and the Fire and Rescue Service officers who were called to the disturbing scene in Nyambai forest said the body was buried due to the state of the decomposed body, reports Foroyaa. 

“He was found dead and the body must have stayed long until it has started to decompose,” an unnamed senior police officer who was at the scene said. 

He pointed out that an investigation has been launched by detectives in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The officer said the decomposed body was discovered by women who were in the forest to collect firewood. 

Police spokesman Superintendent Lamin Njie said: “The investigations are currently ongoing. We also urge the public especially the people who frequent the area, to cooperate with the police and provide them with the necessary information on the matter.”

“The police are able to talk to someone who said he knew the deceased; that he (the deceased) was not healthy and has been walking within the forest area. We have obtained a statement from the person,” he said.
