President Adama Barrow has appointed Foday Gassama as Nominated National Assembly. He replaces Ya Kumba Jaiteh who was sacked last month from the post.

A short press release published on President Barrow’s official Facebook account states:

“The public is hereby informed that His Excellency, Mr. Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia, acting under section 88 1(b) of the 1997 Constitution, has nominated Mr.Foday Gassama as National Assembly Member with effect from Monday, 4th March 2019. Mr. Gassama replaces Honourable Kumba Jaiteh as nominated member of the National Assembly.”

Ya Kumba Jaiteh’s sacking last month caused uproar with differing views on the constitutionality of replacing a Nominated Member of parliament. Thirty one parliamentarians condemned the sacking last month and urged the president to rescind his decision.
