President Adama Barrow on Friday held a meeting with chairpersons and executive directors of key education boards today to review progress and outline objectives for higher education and research in The Gambia.

The discussions included the Students Revolving Loan Scheme (SRLS), aimed at improving financial access to higher education for Gambian students, the Tertiary and Higher Education Trust Fund (THETF), which focuses on mobilizing resources for infrastructure and access, and the National Research and Innovation Fund (NRIF), designed to support researchers and enhance The Gambia’s global position in innovation.

Prof. Ahmed Adamu, Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, briefed the President on ongoing transformations and the targets set to achieve the Education Development and Transformation Agenda (GEDTA).

The boards are working to establish institutional frameworks with effective systems to drive progress on GEDTA initiatives.

Members of the SRLS, THETF, and NRIF boards expressed gratitude for their appointments and reaffirmed their commitment to contributing to national development goals.

The meeting underscored the government’s emphasis on quality education as a key engine for national growth.
