President Adama Barrow will host the President of Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, for a four-day State Visit to The Gambia from 30 July to 2 August 2026.

The visit is aimed at strengthening the longstanding diplomatic and bilateral ties between the two countries.

According to the Office of the President, the two leaders will hold a private tête-à-tête before holding official bilateral talks at State House in Banjul.

The discussions are expected to review existing areas of cooperation and explore new opportunities for collaboration in sectors of mutual interest.

As part of his visit, President Oligui Nguema will tour several key government infrastructure projects and tourist attractions, including the National Food and Drug Quality Control Laboratory in Brusubi, the University of The Gambia’s Faraba Campus, the National Emergency Treatment Centre in Farato, and the historic Kachikally Crocodile Pool in Bakau.

President Barrow will also host a State Banquet in honour of the Gabonese leader, underscoring the shared commitment of both nations to strengthening bilateral cooperation and promoting sustainable economic development.

President Oligui Nguema, 51, came to power after leading the August 2023 military coup that ended the Bongo family’s more than five decades in power by ousting former President Ali Bongo Ondimba.

He later oversaw Gabon’s political transition and was inaugurated as the country’s fourth president in May 2025, following presidential elections that marked a return to civilian rule.

His administration has pledged to prioritise good governance, economic reform, infrastructure development and improved living standards as part of efforts to rebuild Gabon’s economy and strengthen its institutions.
