The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MOHERST) has received D15 million from Q Group, a move that strengthens ongoing efforts to advance higher education, research, and innovation in The Gambia.
The donation fulfills a pledge by Muhammed Jah, CEO of Q Group and chairperson of the Tertiary and Higher Education Trust Fund (THETFUND).
At the handover ceremony, MOHERST officials thanked the private sector for its support, stressing the importance of such partnerships in promoting education and research initiatives.
The funds will be allocated to three newly established MOHERST education funds, with GMD 5 million directed to each.

The initiatives aim to improve access to quality tertiary education, foster research and innovation, and support programs that contribute to national development.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Higher Education, Professor Pierre Gomez, highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to working with both public and private partners to mobilize resources, strengthen institutional capacity, and create opportunities for students and researchers.
“Contributions like this are vital for ensuring The Gambia develops a robust higher education system that equips our youth for leadership, innovation, and meaningful impact,” he said.
Muhammed Jah reaffirmed Q Group’s commitment to national development through education, research, and innovation.
He described the donation as a demonstration of the company’s belief in investing in people as the foundation for sustainable development, in line with its “Sunu Buss, It’s Ours” philosophy.
Mr Jah also commended the Ministry for its leadership and urged more private sector engagement to further strengthen higher education and empower Gambian youth.
