The Gambia Women’s National Team kicked off their WAFU A Women’s Cup campaign in style, securing a commanding 3-0 victory over Sierra Leone.

Despite dominating the first half, the Queen Scorpions could not break the deadlock, with both sides heading into the break goalless.

But The Gambia came out firing in the second half. Fatoumatta Jammeh opened the scoring in the 56th minute, followed closely by Fatou Sonko, who doubled the lead just three minutes later.

Substitute Kaddy Jarjue put the result beyond doubt in the 73rd minute with a clinical finish, sealing a dream start for The Gambia in the tournament.

Captain Ruggy Joof was named Player of the Match for her outstanding leadership and composure at the back, expertly marshalling the Queen Scorpions’ defence and ensuring a clean sheet.
