Gambian rapper Myk Jayda has launched a scathing criticism of the country’s music industry, accusing the majority of artists of lacking honesty and singling out one of the nation’s top stars, ST, for what he describes as misleading behaviour.
“About ninety percent of Gambian artists don’t speak the truth,” he said.
“And your biggest artist, known as ST, is the number one artist fond of misleading Gambians.”
He cited a past incident in which ST reportedly announced the launch of a new album that never materialised.
“Didn’t he mislead Gambians?” he asked.
Jayda, who admitted to being a former fan of ST and still enjoys some of his music, including the song Baba La, also questioned the credibility of a story ST once told about being approached for a photo by an airline pilot during a flight.
“That was not true. No pilot will request a picture with a passenger on an aeroplane,”he said.
The rapper further expressed frustration at what he sees as double standards within the music scene.
“There are so many hypocrites who will point out Myk Jayda’s mistakes but they will never point out ST’s.”
