The Rwandan government has denied reports that it expelled 18 Chinese nationals for making employees work long hours.

The news reports circulating on social media claimed that President Paul Kagame had ordered the deportation.

Rwanda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the reports were “fake news”.

In a tweet post on Tuesday the ministry said:

“There has been fake news circulating on various social media platforms stating that 18 Chinese citizens were expelled from Rwanda; no such thing happened. Please ignore.”
