A Senegalese national who allegedly murdered Gibril Ceesay in Sanyang has been remanded by Brikama Magistrate’s Court.

Gana Sey was charged with one count of murder and appeared before senior magistrate Sainey Joof. 

Police prosecutor Superintendent Camara applied for the case to be transferred to the High Court in Banjul and that the accused be remanded as the offence is non-bailable. 

Magistrate Joof granted the request and the accused was remanded in custody  pending his next court appearance. 

The death of Gribil Ceesay sparked a violent protest in Sanyang that led to the burning down of a police station and a fishmeal factory.
