A security guard identified as Aziz Ndow, who chopped off Cherno Sulayman Jallow’s hand in London Corner after a row over alcohol, has been charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm (GBH).
Police spokesman ASP Lamin Njie told Gambiana: “(the) accused Aziz Ndow is charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm contrary to the laws of the Gambia and currently awaiting trial.”
A horrifying video of the attack is circulating on social media where the attacker, Aziz Ndow, is seen striking his victim with the machete.
Aziz, who is believed to be mentally ill, works as a security guard at the bar in London Corner. The appalling attack was reportedly sparked by a row over alcohol.
In the video, the victim’s hand is seen dangling as he called for help.
And Aziz is seen in the video bragging about his ‘appalling’ attack. He could be heard saying in Wollof, ‘he poured the alcohol on me and I am more crazy than him.”
Aziz who has now been charged with GBH is in custody awaiting trial.
The victim, Cherno Jallow, is receiving treatment at Serrekunda General hospital.
