The mayor of Kanifing Municipality, Talib Ahmed Bensouda, has said he would easily defeat the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) if he were to seek a third term in office.
Bensouda has pledged not to run for a third term, but warned that he remains confident of victory against President Barrow’s party if he were to contest again.
“If I go for a third term, I will win. So, if I went for a third term, which the constitution allows for mayors, I have the incumbency, I have the track record, I have the competence to defeat them a third time.
“But would that be justice to the people of KMC? Would that be justice to myself and my legacy? Would that be good for my family? Absolutely not,” he told Coffee Times.
Talib’s comments come amid rising political tensions between his United Democratic Party and President Barrow’s National People’s Party ahead of next year’s election cycle.
