Tatadinding Jobarteh, Kora maestro, died on Saturday at the Brikama Health Centre. He was 56.

Tatadinding hailed from a griot family and his the elder brother of Kora musician Pa Bobo Jorbateh. 

He learned to play the Kora at the age of six. Later he took lessons from Kora legend Alhaji Bai Konte.

There he lived with Konte’s sons Dembo and Bakaba and learned the tradition of the Jali (Griot).

The veteran musician and his Salam band have performed worldwide in prestigious festivals including the KlangWelten world music festival in Germany.
