At least ten people have died in a tragic head-on collision between a van and a truck along the Pirang highway. 

And several more people are hospitalised with life-changing injuries.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to Gambiana claimed that the truck driver was asleep at the time while his apprentice was driving the truck.

“The driver of the van was struggling to apply the brakes when he saw the truck coming in his direction, but the brakes as he later learnt failed,” an eyewitness said.

“We believe one of the vehicles was going the wrong way on Faraba Road and subsequently resulted in the unfortunate [head-on collision and death] of these people and a driver,” another eyewitness added.

Police have been contacted for comment.
