Three Gambians who were arbitrary arrested by Senegalese soldiers on the eve of a deadly shootout with MFDC rebels on The Gambia’s southern border have been freed.
The trios Abdou Jammeh, Modou Bojang and Bakary Bojang were released after nationwide condemnation and outrage.
They have now returned to their families as the Barrow administration launched an investigation into their arrest.
Speaking to reporters, the National Assembly member for Foni Kansala Musa Amul Nyassi condemned their arrest and called on the government to ensure justice for the trio.
“Thank God those Gambians who were arrested by the Senegalese soldiers on the eve of clashes on The Gambian border have been released and they have arrived in the country safely,” he said.
“This is very sad and we condemn it. This is something that’s is sad and is undone. This has never happened in any country where foreign forces invade to arrest citizens of other country,” he added.
However, he urged the people of Foni to calm down and allow the authorities to do their job, adding the issue isn’t political.
