Three siblings were named among the victims of last Wednesday migrant boat tragedy off the coast of Mauritania. 

Mariama, Lamin and Modou Ceesay from Kombo Mandinaring were reported to have drowned after their boat which was headed to Spain’s Canary Island capsized. 

The boat believed to be carrying 195 migrants left the coastal town of Barra in the North Bank Region The Gambia on November 27. 

63 migrants were confirmed dead while 83 were rescued by the Mauritanian Coast Guard. 47 are declared missing. 

Meanwhile it has emerged that the migrants paid D35,000 each to the people smugglers for their ill fated trip to Spain. 

The alleged ringleaders, Ousman Bahoum, popularly known as Move Up in Barra and Sanna Marong were said to be on the run.
