Banjul South MP Fatoumatta ‘Touma’ Njai has reacted to her expulsion from the People’s Progressive Party as ‘utter nonsense’. 

Ms Njai was yesterday expelled from the party she represents in parliament after a row with the newly elected party executive over last month’s leadership election in Brikama-Ba. 

She claimed the election was rigged in favour of her rival and bitter opponent Kebba Jallow. 

The executive kicked her out of the party yesterday for what they called “gross and serious violation of the [party’s] constitution”. 

Ms Njai, who is currently in Freetown, and has set up an alternative executive, dismissed her expulsion from the party as 

“utter nonsense”.

“I stand by my communications to the public via my press conference on the 1st March 2021 as proclaimed after the agreement of all the regional chairpersons of the party. I maintain the position of the SG and the party leader pending free and fair election,” Ms Njai said. 

“I am still waiting on the response from the IEC and for now, I will just ignore the letter. As far as I am concern, I am still the interim leader of the PPP pending another congress. 

“The corrupt practices have been further emphasised by the High Court ruling of the 1st March. For me, as always demonstrated, accountability and transparency are always uppermost. 

“We do not recognise Mr Jallow as a leader and as such, this letter is of no significance and of no value,” she added.
