Two young girls have died in a house fire in Tallinding in the early hours of Saturday.

Their mother who sustained burns remained in hospital.

The girls identified as Fatima Barry, 15 and Oumie Barry, 12, tragically lost their lives after they became trapped in their apartment.

The fire broke out in a home in Tallinding at about 1am and the house was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived.

A neighbour and Local MP Fatoumatta Jawara explained how they scrambled outside shocked to see the home up in flames.

“I then woke the neigbours and then called the fire service who responded quickly.

“But before they came, the fire had already devastated the house and two people died, the two girls and the mother suffered burns on her hand,” Ms Jawara said.

The neighborhood is traumatised by what they saw unfold. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

The girls were laid to rest Saturday evening.
