The wave of resignations rocking the United Democratic Party (UDP) has deepened, with senior officials from the West Coast Region becoming the latest to step down, in what analysts describe as a major blow to the party’s grassroots base.
In a letter dated 27 September 2025, a group of executives and key members announced their immediate resignation from both their positions and the party.
“We, the undersigned executive position holders and members of the United Democratic Party (UDP) in West Coast Region, hereby tender our resignation from both our executive positions and membership of the Party with immediate effect,” the letter stated.
Among those quitting are prominent figures including Sirimang Kuyateh, Regional Treasurer; Daniel Mendy, UDP National Executive Treasurer; Ebrima Ceesay, Kombo East Chairman; and Momodou Jallow Gibba, Foni Berefet Chairman and All Foni UDP Chairman.
They are joined by constituency chairpersons, women’s wing executives, campaign managers, and long-serving members — 20 in total.
Observers say the departures could weaken UDP’s grip on the politically strategic West Coast Region.
The party leadership has yet to issue a formal response to the resignations, which come at a crucial time as the opposition prepares for future national contests.
